Schools & Teachers
The Dayton Art Institute supports educators’ and students’ integration of arts with all other curriculum areas. By connecting our encyclopedic collection with universal themes and school curricula, together we create experiences that inspire students for a lifetime!
A variety of resources are available for educators, including museum visits for school groups, professional development sessions, teacher open house events, online resources (such as What Is a Masterpiece?) and other community programs like Curatorial Conversations and Object of the Month.
NEW: 2021 Max May & Lydia May Memorial Holocaust Art & Writing Contest
Each year, students in grades 5-8 (Division I) and 9-12 (Division II), attending public school, parochial school, or are home schooled within the Miami Valley are invited to learn more about the Holocaust and share their reflections through artistic expression, and creative writing. The contest was presented in a virtual format for 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and works were selected by the Dayton Art Institute for display in a digital exhibition brochure.
