High School Summer Volunteers
The Dayton Art Institute’s Summer High School Volunteer program is designed to expose high school students to the field of art education by learning the behind the scenes skills needed for implementing public programming in an art museum. Responsibilities include assisting with public programs such as Tiny Thursdays, Summer Art Camp, ARTventures & Studio Prep work. Duties may also include interacting with kids and parents through educational activities; assisting instructors with preparation and execution of projects and art activities; preparing materials and supplies for classes; clean up; and maintaining order of supplies in studios.
Preferred Qualifications
Volunteer must be at least 15 years of age; enjoy working with children of all ages and able to engage children through planned activities; able to work in a team environment; and watch for ways to assist. Knowledge of a variety of art media and materials desired.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this assignment, the volunteer is regularly required to move throughout the museum and classroom: see, talk, hear, handle or feel, and reach. Must be comfortable moving internally throughout the museum and externally on the museum grounds.
Time Commitment
The volunteer program runs between June and August, 2023. We ask that volunteers dedicate at least 2 days a week for a 4-week minimum commitment.
Compensation / Volunteer Hours
This is a volunteer position; therefore, it is an unpaid opportunity. All volunteer hours, however, will be logged and recorded for those students who are completing service hours for graduation.
