Guided Tour: The Artistic Life of Aka Pereyma

Date: Saturdays: March 9, April 20 and May 4, from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
and Select Thursdays: Feb. 29, March 28 and April 25, from 6-7 p.m.

Explore the newest Special Exhibition, The Artistic Life of Aka Pereyma, through one of our guided tours. Led by the DAI Education team, this interactive program offers a chance for all audiences to dive into the main topics and conversations surrounding this exhibition. Tickets can be registered online or in-person the day of the program

Curatorial Conversations: The Artistic Life of Aka Pereyma

Date: March 30 – 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Cost: Free for museum members; included in price of general admission 
Location: Leo Community Room

Join Head Curator & Curatorial Affairs Director Dr. Jerry Smith as he discusses our newest exhibition The Artistic Life of Aka Pereyma. Offering an insiders view, Dr. Jerry Smith will give a deep dive into the themes and opportunities this show provided during its creation. This program will start in the Leo community room. Advanced registra􀆟on is strongly encouraged. Tickets can be purchased online or in-person the day of the program.

Family Style Story Telling: April 27 – 1:00-4 p.m.

Cost: $35 for museum members; $45 for non-members Each month is an in-depth study of an object, art movement, and/or the artistic techniques and processes featured in the collection galleries OR Special Exhibitions. Experience a hands-on immersive art history lesson with the tools and tricks of the trade! Each session features an in-gallery examination of an artwork, followed by an in-studio art project. Ages 16 and up. Note: The materials used in this workshop will be messy in nature and have the potential to stain clothing. It is recommended to dress for the mess!

Egg Painting:
Explore the artful tradition of egg painting! Participants will create their own symbolic painted wooden egg while learning about the beautifully intricate designs and techniques used in the delicate pysanky process. Ages 12 and up welcome. No drawing experience necessary.

Family Style Story Telling:
Create your own colorful stories to share as we explore the world of Ukrainian folk tales and their meanings. Families and children are encouraged to work together. For ages 6 and up.

Iryna Voloshyna:
Join us for a special talk at the DAI. Hear from Iryna Voloshyna, as they share their expertise on Ukrainian culture and folk arts. This talk is sure to provide new ways of appreciating the art of Aka Pereyma. This program is held in conjunction with the exhibition The Artistic Life of Aka Pereyma, currently on view at the DAI. Tickets will be available in advance, or on the day of program.

Christina Pereyma O’Neal:
You are invited to this Artist Talk hosted by DAI. Join Christina Pereyma O’Neal, daughter of artist Aka Pereyma, as she offers personal insights into her mother’s art practice and the importance of their shared Ukrainian heritage. This program will take place alongside the exhibition The Artistic Life of Aka Pereyma, currently on view at the DAI. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged.
