A second-generation Abstract Expressionist, this work is an exceptional example of Mitchell's 1960s compositions. She used nature as the basis from which she expressed emotions in her dynamic paintings. Her style is more extroverted, nature-based and objective than the earlier generation, whose orientation was mythical, introspective and symbolic.
