Through multiple layers and applications of various material, the artist creates a scene. Close observation makes the planes of color visible. Picturing a vibrant, frenetic street scene in Cleveland, Ohio, in the 1970s, the work emphasizes popular culture of the time. While the composition is fun and nostalgic of the 1970s—RC Cola, phone booths, NBA jersey of Jim Clemmons—it also explores serious issues, such as racism and the history of aggressive police presence in predominantly Black neighborhoods.
