Gallery 215
A central image of Christ's Crucifixion is surrounded by depictions of the martyrdoms of Christ's twelve apostles (clockwise from the upper left corner: Peter, Matthew, Andrew, James Major, John the Evangelist, Thomas, James Minor, Philip, Bartholomew, Simon, Mark and Paul). The work reinforces the concept of Christ's sacrifice, through which believers are offered redemption, and that of his apostles who gave their lives to spread Christ's message.
