DESCRIPTION:Our artist-led workshops are designed to make community connections between our guests, local artists, and the Dayton Art Institute through conversation and artmaking.\nCommunity Workshop Series\nDrawn to the Face: A Portrait\nDate: Thursdays, August 7, 14, 21 and 28, and September 4 – 5:30–7:30 p.m\nCost: $150 for museum members; $175 for non-members\nAges: 18+\nREGISTER HERE\nParticipants will explore the art of capturing human expression and emotion through charcoal. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this series is designed to guide you through the fundamentals and advanced techniques of portraiture. Over the course of several sessions, you’ll learn how to sketch and shade the human face, focusing on proportion, light and shadow to bring your portraits to life. Each participant receives their own personal drawing kit to keep following the workshops. \nJamaal Durr, a Contemporary Artist, is recognized for his figurative works that intimately blend reality and the surreal. Using materials like oil paint, charcoal, and graphite, he explores themes of identity and self-reflection through his timely narratives. Jamaal has expanded his capacity within the realm of Art, having also gained experience as a Curator, Teacher, and Muralist.\nJamaal is primarily self-taught, having only received a couple of years of formal training at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, OH and a brief stint studying architecture at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.\nSponsored by AES Ohio Foundation\n\n
