DESCRIPTION:Date: June 30\nTimes: 1:30-2 p.m., 2:30-3 p.m., 3:30-4 p.m.\nLocation: Lange Family Experiencenter \nCost: Free\nCapacity: Drop-in, Up to 20 per session, first come, first served\nJoin Dayton-area educator Danny Rodriguez in the Lange Family Experiencenter during our Art for All day on June 30th as he introduces Capoeira to the Dayton Art Institute. Originating in Africa and developing further in Brazil, Capoeira is a movement art that incorporates music, singing and acrobatic, dance-like movements that can be used to disguise practical martial arts techniques. We will host three half-hour sessions that focus on different elements featured in Capoeira:\nSession One: 1:30-2 p.m – History. Learn about the history of Capoeira’s development from Africa to Brazil. Patrons will have an opportunity to understand how Capoeira encapsulates elements of African and Brazilian culture to influence the art form as we know it.\nSession Two: 2:30-3 p.m. – Music and song. Patrons can learn some Portuguese and dive deeper into common themes featured in African-Brazilian music. Come learn the ways in which music inspires our culture, movement and emotions.\nSession Three: 3:30-4 p.m. – Movements. Get ready to move! This session will offer patrons a chance to learn basic movements common in Capoeira. While generally portrayed in media as a highly acrobatic martial art, this session offers the opportunity to learn simple, fundamental elements that new learners can easily grasp.\n\n
