Providing AWEsome Moments for your Passport to Kindergarten preschooler

Passport to Kindergarten, a three-year community partnership, is an initiative that focuses on kindergarten readiness, ensuring that all children in the Miami Valley have the opportunity to start kindergarten at same level of preparedness especially in regard to literacy and language development.

After a successful first two years, The Dayton Art Institute, along with other community organizations, is preparing to serve over 400 preschool children, their families, and their teachers in this year’s program.

Last October, the Passport to Kindergarten preschoolers and their families took part in a family event at the museum that included a gallery hunt and art making activity. Nearly 400 pieces of art created by these young artists were displayed in the Shaw Gothic Cloister during the event. Watch this page for information about future events and programs.

For Kids and Caregivers

THE ART PLACE FOR YOUNG LEARNERS
Located in the Experiencenter, The Art Place supports the development of young minds through creative play and AWEsome problem solving activities. Open during regular museum hours.

AWEsome GALLERY BACKPACKS
Enjoy one-on-one AWEsome moments with your preschooler. Check out a gallery backpack filled with activities and helpful hints for talking about art together. Available at the Visitor Services
Desk during regular museum hours.

For Teachers

TOURS FOR PRESCHOOLERS
Tours are designed to engage preschoolers in fun and interactive learning activities in the galleries. $6 per participant. Tours are 45 minutes.

A Dragon's Tale
Listen to the story The Egg. Search for dragons in the Asian galleries and create an illustrated book about dragons.

Color, Shape and Line
Listen to the story The Squiggle and participate in a gallery hunt. Create a stick puppet using shapes, colors and lines.

Looking For Goldilocks
Listen to the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Look for clues about Goldilocks in the American wing and decorate your own porridge bowl.
