Date: Saturday, July 31, 2010
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Join Art Trek on Saturday, July 31, for a day trip to Louisville, Kentucky, featuring stops at The Speed Art Museum, Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft and GLASSWORKS.
Art Trek will depart from The Dayton Art Institute at 8:00 a.m., via deluxe motorcoach, with refreshments en route to Louisville.
At the Speed, the exhibition Fifty Years of Contemporary Glass: Art, Craft, or Otherwise? features highlights from the Adele and Leonard Leight Collection, one of the nation’s most comprehensive collections of contemporary glass. Following a docent-led tour of the exhibition, browse through the permanent glass collection of the Speed before enjoying lunch on your own in the museum’s Sculpture Court Café.
The next stop is a docent-led tour of the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft exhibition Red River: The Narrative Carvings of Edgar Tolson, Carl McKenzie, Earnest Patton and Donny Tolson.
The trip concludes with an exploration of GLASSWORKS, a unique facility for glass artists that features the best-equipped “hot-shop” in this part of the country. See demonstrations of glassblowing and flameworking, visit their architectural glass studio and shop in their sales gallery.
A box dinner will be served on the return trip to Dayton, arriving at The Dayton Art Institute by 9:00 p.m.
