March 16, 2009 (DAYTON) – The Dayton Art Institute will offer free admission to its special exhibition, William Morris: Myth, Object and the Animal on the third Thursday of each month. Free admission days will include March 19, April 16 and May 21 and are intended for individuals, not groups.
This year, The Dayton Art Institute celebrates its 90th anniversary and free admission on the third Thursday of the month is a way for the museum to show its appreciation to the community for the support it has received over the years. Admission for this exhibition ranges in price from $5.00 to $10.00; members are free. “William Morris is one of America’s most accomplished artists working in glass and we want everyone in the community to experience this exquisite exhibition,” stated Jan Driesbach, Director and CEO for the museum.
Morris started working at Pilchuck Glass School in the late 1970s where for many years he was Dale Chihuly’s chief “gaffer,” or glass blower. After Morris founded his own studio, he created amazing works that explore our relationship to nature and other cultures. These stunning glass sculptures have been exhibited worldwide. Morris’s mastery of his medium allows him to create works in glass that imitate other materials, such as stone, clay, ivory, or metal. William Morris: Myth, Object and the Animal is on view through May 31.
