Open Positions Manager of Corporate Relations and Special Events The Dayton Art Institute seeks a full-time Manager of Corporate Relations and Special Events. Primary responsibilities include identifying, creating, maintaining and cultivating corporate and individual relationships to achieve full fundraising potential for gifts of $500+; sponsorship of exhibitions, education programs and other activities, and fundraising events including Art Ball, Oktoberfest and the Vectren Just Jazz series; managing the corporate membership program and sponsorship (operating) programs; and working with the development department to develop and implement strategies for new member/sponsor acquisition, renewals and upgrades. In addition, this position also provides event coordination and marketing services for DAI special events and works with and manages the volunteer group responsible for the implementation of the museums fundraising events (e.g. Art Ball and Oktoberfest). Qualifications: Proven media relations experience; exceptional verbal, written and excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills; high creativity; project management, self-motivation and attention to detail experience is also required. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, visitors, professional media and development/marketing colleagues and other members of the museum community. Experience using Raiser's Edge or a comparable fund raising software program and proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must be able to quickly immerse in and adapt to museum culture. This is a mid-level, non-supervisory position and the salary range will be commensurate with education, experience and any additional qualifications. Curator or Associate Curator of Asian Art The Dayton Art Institute (DAI) seeks a highly qualified museum professional to serve as the Curator or Associate Curator (title commensurate with experience) of Asian art. The DAI's extraordinary collection of over 2,000 Asian works includes such treasures as the Ming dynasty temple permanently installed in the Patterson-Kettering Wing of Asian Art. The East Asian collection includes Indian, Tibetan, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Southeast Asian art. The West Asian collection includes Persian, Near Eastern and Islamic Art. The DAI's collection of Japanese art contains one of the world's largest collections of rare menuki (sword fittings) and the Korean collection includes some of the best examples of Korean celadon outside of Korea. Primary responsibilities include developing and overseeing the safekeeping of diverse Asian art collections; developing exhibitions, publications and programming that enhance the understanding of and appreciation for Asian art; collections development; permanent collection and special exhibition installations; cultivating donors; developing and monitoring project budgets; writing grants for ongoing and special projects, and interpreting Asian art to multiple audiences through diverse media. Qualifications Excellent managerial, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Strong English language skills for educational lectures and docent training; ability to read and speak an Asian language. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, trustees, volunteers, donors, visitors, collectors, professional colleagues and other members of the museum community. Student Internship Program The Dayton Art Institute is an equal opportunity employerThe Dayton Art Institute can provide a wide variety of educational and professional training opportunities for students interested in a museum career. As the premier arts institution in the Miami Valley, we have established a national and international reputation for our collection, exhibition, and educational programs. Our collections include American, African, Asian, European, Oceanic, and pre-Columbian art, with curators in each of these areas as well as photography and textiles. The exhibition program features major projects in all of these areas, as well as other exhibitions on cultures from elsewhere in the world. The educational programs reach tens of thousands of children, students, and adults from throughout the Miami Valley each year. In addition, we have received national awards for our educational programs for the visually impaired. PURPOSE Although internships are non-paid positions, we seek to provide the student with projects relevant to the student’s professional goals, making the best use of the student’s knowledge and interests.
