Visitors
are welcome to take photographs in the Art Institute for their personal
enjoyment. To protect the objects being photographed, the copyright privileges
of their creators, and the safety of our visitors, there is a need for
certain restrictions on taking photographs in the museum.
Still photography
of the collection and the Art Institute itself, taken in existing light,
is permitted on the condition that the photographs are for private, personal,
non-commercial use.
Flashes, tripods and video cameras are not allowed. Photography is not
permitted inside the special exhibition galleries or of special exhibition
works of art displayed throughout the museum.
Photographs may not be published, sold, reproduced,
transferred, distributed or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner
whatsoever. The Art Institute reserves the right, at its sole discretion,
to withhold and/or withdraw permission to photograph on its premises.
If you are interested in obtaining a publication-quality
photograph of an object in our collection, either for publication or study
purposes, please contact the Art Institute’s Registration Department
at (937) 223-5277, ext. 330. Members of the press should contact the Communications
Department at (937) 223-5277, ext. 223 for any photography needs.
