INNOVATION / IMAGINATION
50 Years of Polaroid Photography, 1947 - 1997
In
1947, Edwin Land invented the world's first instant photographic process.
Polaroid photography brought together science and aesthetics to form a
new type of artistic image, one that could be viewed seconds after its
creation. Now, 50 years later, the Friends of Photography/Ansel Adams
Center for Photography in San Francisco, California, has assembled an
exciting exhibition of Polaroid images spanning the medium's lifetime.
More than 80 photographs chronicle the development of Polaroid photography
and illustrate the Polaroid Corporation's commitment to supporting contemporary
photographers. Ansel Adams, Andy Warhol, Barbara Kasten and Chuck Close
are just a few of the exemplary photographers featured in this exhibition.
Chosen from more than 20,000 works in the Polaroid Collection, this exhibition
features examples of the finest works of Polaroid photography.
