Arnold Newman's Gift
50 Years of Photography
This exhibition was drawn from the collection of
176 original gelatin silver prints by photographer Arnold Newman
(b. 1918) given to the George Eastman House. Newman has known many of
the world's leading artists, writers, poets, politicians and othe r
personages of great accomplishment, all of whom influence his work. His
portraits of these many personal friends and acquaintances (Pablo Picasso,
Georgia O'Keeffe, John F. Kennedy, and Aaron Copland, to name but a few)
have appeared in magazines such as LIFE, Fortune, Newsweek and Esquire,
among others. Of note is the inclusion of rare, vintage prints, making
the exhibition a unique opportunity for viewers to study and enjoy the
finest prints existing from throughout Newman's 50 years of photography.
Organized by the George Eastman House, Rochester,
NY and supported by the Eastman Kodak Company.
