IN PRAISE OF NATURE:
Ansel Adams and Photographers of the American West
In Dayton, the exhibition is presented by National
City and WHIO-Channel 7 with additional support from The Reynolds &
Reynolds Company, Mrs. Mary Mikesell Mapp, Montgomery County Regional
Arts & Cultural District and Motophoto.
This exhibition closely examines the work of Ansel
Adams not only from an aesthetic perspective, but also in the context
of his oeuvre as it relates to the tremendous body of work by other photographers
of the West. The work of those who proceeded him as well as his contemporaries
during the first century of photography are included in this exhibition
providing a more complete view of Adams as the consummate photographer
of natural America.
Photographs of Yosemite National Park, as well as
his more intimate and less-often-seen views of cactus and oaks, are included.
Complemented by a fully illustrated catalogue, IN PRAISE OF NATURE: Ansel
Adams and Photographers of the American West will be on view at The Dayton
Art Institute followed by a national tour.
