June 15 - Aug. 31, 1997
American Art from the Dicke Collection
This exhibition of 130 paintings, sculptures and
prints offered a glimpse into one of the most significant private collections
of American art in the Midwest. The Dicke Collection, owned by the James
F. and Eilleen Dicke Sr. family of New Bremen, Ohio, charted the changes
in American art from 1865 to the present. The exhibition marked the first
time the majority of the collection had been shown in the public and featured
many prominent American artists, including William Merritt Chase, Charles
Sprague Pearce, Childe Hassam, John Sloan, Doris Lee, James Abbott McNeill
Whistler and Arthur Wesley Dow. Of note in this special exhibition were
the exquisite period frames, all meticulously handcrafted.
Catalogue available: $29.95 (soft cover) plus shipping
& handling.
This exhibition was organized by The Dayton Art Institute.
