THE CHRISTMAS STORY: Crèches from The Marian Library, University of Dayton
November 23, 2007 - January 6, 2008
| |
Who else was at the manger?
The Christ Child, Joseph and Mary, the shepherds and wisemen are familiar figures of the Christmas scene. Maybe also the ox and ass, sheep and camel; but what about the rooster and the alligator? Ever heard of the Yuletide lads and the Pin People, the Mariachi Band and the Candle Snuffers?
Over time, the hidden birth scene of Bethlehem has grown into a kaleidoscope of customs and cultures encompassing the religious sensitivities of East and West, North and South.
This year’s display of The Marian Library’s crèches will center on these “other figures” highlighting the religious and cultural riches of a worldwide Christmas tradition.
Admission is free.
