The Vectren Just Jazz Series returns in 2010 with eight hot nights of cool jazz and more, showcasing the Miami Valley’s favorite performers.

The series kicks off Thursday, March 4 and continues with concerts on the first Thursday of April, May and June. The Vectren Just Jazz Series takes an intermission in July and returns with four more shows, on the first Thursday of August, September, October and November. All performances begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Shaw Gothic Cloister, unless otherwise noted.

Admission is FREE for museum members, and $6 for non-members. General admission tickets may be purchased at The Dayton Art Institute the night of the performance.

March 4: Jada
The series opens with the all-purpose jazz and funk of Cincinnati's Jada, co-led by former Ray Charles trombonist, Mark Fields and popular trumpet man Mike Wade.

April 1: Triage
No fooling, Triage presents a unique fusion of Jazz, world music and funk led by Cincinnati-based keyboardist Billy Larkin.

May 6: Puzzle of Light meets Harambee
Two Dayton favorites get together, when Michael and Sandy Bashaw join the Khalid Moss Quartet. Each group will perform a separate set, then combine together for one set!

June 3: Dayton Jazz Orchestra
One of the area's premier jazz ensemble, the 16-piece Dayton Jazz Orchestra presents the exciting sounds of modern and traditional big band music, including Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Bob Mintzer, Rob McConnell, Duke Ellington and more.

Intermission: No Concert in July

August 5: Brandon Meeks Quartet
The Brandon Meeks Quartet kicks off the second half of the Vectren Just Jazz Series with a straight-ahead jazz sound that blends elements of Funk, Hip Hop and Gospel.

September 2: The J.T. Fredrick Bank
The J.T. Fedrick Band brings one of Dayton’s most popular smooth jazz saxophonists back to the Vectren Just Jazz Series for a night of smooth jazz sounds.

October 7: Soul Express
Vectren Just Jazz goes R&B with series favorites Soul Express. There’s nothing finer than that sweet soul music of the 1960s and '70s, and Soul Express delivers the raw excitement of a vintage “soul revue.”

November 4: Khalid Moss
Local Favorite Khalid Moss returns to close out the 2010 Vectren Just Jazz Series with a salute to Romare Bearden.
