CHILDREN IN AMERICAN ART

Vanguard Concerts: Claremont Trio
The Claremont Trio secured a place as one of the most exciting young groups performing today when it won the first Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award in 2003. The trio – twins Emily (violin) and Julia (cello) Bruskin plus pianist Donna Kwong – have also secured their place as one of Vanguard’s most applauded chamber ensembles. More Information.

 

Lecture: Style and Status, Spaniels and Straw Hats: American Paintings of Children1:00 p.m. in the NCR Renaissance Auditorium

Dr. Carol Troyen, Curator Emerita & Curator of Children in American Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  Whether presented as miniature adults or as “barefoot boys with cheeks of tan," children have always been popular subjects for American painters. This lecture will explore the cultural values contained in these and many other charming images from the late 18th to the early 20th century.  Free for members, $8 non-members. Registration required.
