Vanguard Concerts

Vanguard Concerts welcomes the Wind Soloists of New York to their first series appearance on April 28. The Wind Soloists of New York bring together the leading wind players of that city to perform major works for winds, from Mozart and Beethoven to Samuel Barber and Paul Hindemith. The members are among the most esteemed wind players in the United States; they have collectively performed with top-rank ensembles including the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera, Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. They have played at the Ravinia, Spoleto, Lucerne, Tanglewood and Marlboro Music Festivals, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

The Wind Soloists of New York are led by oboist Thomas Gallant, who is known for his unique performance style, blending American and European traditions of oboe playing. He has been praised by the New Yorker Magazine as, “a player who unites technical mastery with intentness, charm and wit.” He performs with an Evoluzione oboe made in Italy by Fratelli Patricola. Gallant has performed at Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York City, in many cities in the U.S., at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Spoleto Festival in Italy, and the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center. For the Vanguard appearance he will be accompanied by: Romie de Guise-Langlois, clarinet, who studied under David Shifrin; Elizabeth Jansen, flute; and Cynde Iverson, bassoon. For the Vanguard performance, Bosnian pianist Pedja Muzsijevic joins the ensemble.
