THE DOROTHY AND BILL YECK EDUCATION ENDOWMENT
This special endowment enables the art institute to offer the Dorothy Myers Yeck Scholarship Studio, the Yeck High School Scholarship and the Yeck College Artist Fellowship. These endowed programs present unique educational opportunities to promote and enhance the development of promising artists. THE DOROTHY MYERS YECK SCHOLARSHIP STUDIO


 

Sixteen sixth and seventh grade students are selected for an opportunity to strengthen their artistic skills in a studio setting. Students are instructed in the fundamentals of art while working with a variety of media. Art teachers in Miami, Montgomery and Greene counties receive program information and nomination forms in April of each year.

YECK HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

Twelve high school students are selected by a competitive portfolio process taught and mentored by college students chosen for the Yeck College Artist Fellowship. Recipients attend eight college level classes during the winter of 2010. High school sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible for this program.

 

To apply, applicant must submit:

  • A one-page essay about the importance of art in their life.
  • A portfolio containing one of the following:
        three pieces of 2-D artwork;
        three slides or photos of 3-D artwork;
        a combination of the above.

 

The student’s name must be on each artwork, slide or photo. The student’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address must be clearly labeled on the outside of the portfolio. The name of their school and art teacher should be included if applicable.

Bring portfolios to The Dayton Art Institute’s Education Department.

The deadline for portfolios for the 2010 program is November 30, 2009.

YECK COLLEGE ARTIST FELLOWSHIP

Four college art students are selected to teach and mentor twelve select high school students. The Fellowship recipients provide intensive instructional studios classes for these students. An ability to share their artistic knowledge in an informative and motivational manner is essential. Fellowship recipients will create a new body of artwork for a joint exhibition in the museum.

Fellowship recipients receive:


$1,000 for materials to create artwork for exhibition in The Dayton Art

Institute.
• Experience mentoring and teaching 12 select high school art students.

To apply, applicant must submit:

  • A cover letter with information about the college art program being attended and how to be contact the applicant.
  • Slides or CDROM of six of artworks labeled with artist’s name. Include a slide list with artist’s name, artwork title, medium used and size. Slides and CDROMs will not be returned and become the property of The Dayton Art Institute.

An artist’s statement.

  • A one page essay stating your opinion on one of the following;
        - the role of artists as educators;

               - the importance of art education.

  • A letter of recommendation from an educator or artist.
