2008 Recipient
The award for 2008 has been presented to Jerri Stanard. Ms. Stanard is recognized and respected for her many contributions to the education of young people throughout the Miami Valley. Thirteen years ago she initiated the project for which she has received the Pamela P. Houk Experiencenter Award for Excellence in Art Education, the K12 Gallery for Young People in Dayton. This studio and gallery space offers a variety of art classes, workshops and exhibitions showcasing the creative work of young people from the Miami Valley and surrounding areas. In the past year, the K12 Gallery for Young People served 28,611 students. The after school program mentored 75-95 inner city children each day and the Saturday workshops reached 40-65 children each week. In addition, K12 is also involved in numerous exhibitions and community outreach festivals.

As founder and executive director, Jerri has developed the K12 Gallery as a place where young people can focus on the visual arts and explore their creative potential in a fun and inviting atmosphere. By using the fine arts as a vehicle for creating a positive experience for students of all ages, Jerri has nurtured a continuing appreciation and understanding of art that will remain with these children for years to come.

In honor of her commitment Jerri was presented with a hand-blown glass bowl designed by glass artist Peter Houk. Her name has also been added to a commemorative plaque located in the Experiencenter.
