The
arts of Tibet are closely tied to Tibetan Buddhism, which is sometimes
called Lama Buddhism (Lamas are high-ranking Tibetan monks). It
has one of the most varied and complex pantheons in the Buddhist
world; its rituals, which drew on native practices, are likewise
unique. In turn, its imagery in art is often animated with a fierce
energy. Set within the context of Tibet's harsh terrain, its art
- sheltered in temples - would have provided dramatic contrast to
the mono chromatic landscape, making use of vivid colors, precious
stones and gilt. |
