Following
World War II, Americans emerged as leaders in the development of
abstract art. With origins in European movements such as Cubism,
Surrealism and Expressionism, American artists extended its potential
and vitality. These Abstract Expressionists recognized that while
art may lack a recognizable subject, it didn't have to give up content.
The new art was fueled by its maker's belief in art's ability to
communicate universal spiritual truths. |
